About

Our Mission

Roots Up Yoga Flow seeks to provide opportunity, convenience and personalized attention to those who are reluctant to travel far from home, feel self-conscious and/or excluded whether real or imagined.

You may not be thin and flexible nor able to execute the poses to perfection….but you can still benefit from the improved use of breath progressive stretching and strengthening, improved balance and functional mobility and the peace of mind that enhances awareness.  These combined are the ultimate promise of a regular yoga practice.

Yoga For All People

As San Diego's only black-owned yoga studio, we are doing our part to make instruction affordable and accessible to anyone and everyone who wants to practice.

We offer mobile yoga services to several communities: San Diego, Lemon Grove, and Spring Valley.

Do you believe yoga is unavailable to you because of physical limitations due to an injury or disability?

Yoga is much deeper and more profound than flexible able body persons putting their body into various prescribed positions.  Even if we have physical limitations, yoga is still for us.

Roots Up Yoga Flow seeks to reach a wider audience by expanding their definition of yoga practice beyond asana (yoga poses) perfection.

The yoga tradition, philosophy, contemplation, breathing, relaxation, and meditation techniques can be accessible even to those who cannot perform the physical exercises.

The Benefits of Practicing Yoga include:

  • Stretches and strengthens muscles throughout the body
  • Increases flexibility, energy and vitality
  • Increases circulation to internal organs and glands
  • Calms the nervous system
  • Improves mental focus and concentration
  • Improves overall health, wellbeing, and peace of mind.
  • Improves the quality of sleep
  • Enhances sports performance
  • Quiets the mind during periods of stress

Sadly, many people who are not thin, athletic, naturally limber, and those that have other physical limitations often think that yoga “isn’t for them” so they won’t even consider coming to a yoga studio.
